This emerged for me in the studio as I experimented with the materials at hand on my drawing board, thinking about how landscape is not just what is visible on the surface but also the mysterious world beneath, from which it forms and grows. 'What Lies Beneath II' is another evocation of the subterranean landscape inspired by my goldfields locality, the original is only 20 x 30cm, in watercolour, charcoal and aquarelle crayon.
