Treesongs

I live in a region full of many sorts of beauty, where the struggle between human and non-human nature has a long history that extends back to the invasion of this country by migrants heading for two polarised things, prisons and gold.

Over time, bushlands were cleared to make way for various kinds of industrial extraction, including agricultural and mineral, as well as for expanding human habitats; however, enough remains to put us on high alert as the climate heats.

That is the story we live in; meanwhile, these artworks respond to the life of earth and forest, with some historical awareness, alongside a desire to imaginatively reconnect. They summon the busy, quiet symphonies of natural activity, of rhizomic growth and decay, of roots and branches, of rivers and gullies, of water moving through soil, of sunlit and subterranean life.
